To create a site template in SharePoint is a very straightforward task. SharePoint ships with several templates inbuilt but at some stage you will want to expand the available options by creating new templates. Templates can be created from scratch but in practice most templates are created by modifying an existing template.

Select Site Actions > Site Settings :

A template can have numerous custom attributes and content. Site columns, web parts and workflows can all be contained in a template but for this demo we will simply create a template with a different color scheme to demonstrate the process.
Select Site theme from under the Look and Feel heading.

Select any theme and click Apply. There will be a pause while the change takes effect and then you will be redirected to back to the Site settings page.

Click Save Site as Template from under the Look and Feel heading.

Fill in the Save Site as Template page with appropriate details and click OK.

Continues…
